There was a national identity crisis at Miss World Dominican Republic 2024. But this time around, Cassandre Jacques did not continue with the national event. She withdrew from the contest.
To start with, Cassandre Jacques is as much a citizen of Haiti as she is of the Dominican Republic. In fact, her successful modelling career is as a citizen of the Dominican Republic. So what is the fuss about?
Why should she suffer identity crisis at Miss World this time? After all she was living and working as a citizen of Dominican Republic, when she won Virreina Nacional de la Policia Colombiana, 2023. What is the difference now?
Yet these same people attacking her, forcing her to withdraw are elated when their relatives become Miss Universe America. What is the use of a citizenship if you can not represent your adopted country? These issues are getting out of hand. In fact, they are becoming one too many.
Summing up these ugly incidents, do you not see the defeat of the unity pageants are trying to foster in the world? Unfortunately, Africans are not left out. The Japanese threw a fit when Karolina Shiino won Miss Japan 2024. So the young lady had to resign. But if a Japanese is Miss United Kingdom or Miss Malta or Miss Thailand, it is jrust fine.
Solution:
In closing, sanction identity crisis at Miss World or any pageant. It is time for the international pageant organizers to address these identity issues. Thankfully, Cassandre Jacques, Chidinma Adetshina, Karolina Shiino and Brooke Bruk-Jackson survived the bullying and attacks. We will not wait till one of these ladies reacts fatally to such harassment before appropriate action is taken?
